現在インド北東部とバングラデシュ北東部に甚大な被害を与えている洪水は過去20年で最悪とも言われています。国連バングラデシュ事務所の6月27日付け報告によれば、バングラデシュの9県の720万人が影響を受け、168万世帯が浸水し48万人が避難しているとのことです。今後5県の152万人が支援を必要とされていてパートナー団体のBDPの活動地区のうちネトロコナ地区もその対象地区に含まれています。
The flooding which has caused severe damage in North-Eastern India and Bangladesh are said to be the worst in twenty years. According to the June 27 report by UN Bangladesh, 7,200,000 people in 9 districts have suffered from this flooding, 1,680,000 families are experiencing flooding in their homes, and 480,000 people are currently evacuating. 1,520,000 people from 5 districts are said to need support in the upcoming days, and the Netrokona district which BDP operates is also included in those areas.

BDPの報告によればネトロコナ地区の3つのBDP小学校が浸水し170名の児童が影響を受けています。ジャマルプールのBDP小学校でも一部学校が浸水している状況がありました。現在では水が引いてきたようですが、水係感染症により多くの人が苦しんでいます。また、水道と井戸の崩壊により、新鮮で安全な水へのアクセスがないため人々の飲水も十分にありません。洪水の被害を受けた地域ではいくつかのNGOが食べ物や浄水タブレット、薬や離乳食を配布しています。
According to the BDP report, 3 BDP schools are out of use due to the flooding, and 170 students are affected by this disaster. Some parts of the school building in Jamalpur are also affected. BDP is asking for your help. Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrokona Nilphamari are more affected areas. Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona and some portions of Jamalpur were under water. There are a huge number of people who are suffering from waterborne diseases. They don’t have access to drinking fresh and safe water because all the tube wells were sunk by the flood water. Some NGOs are distributing dry food, water purification tablets, medicine, baby food etc. but it is not enough for the whole flood affected people.
